Thank you John Michael (JM) Would you pass on my details to Ken Kirk, Tom galley Bob Rand and Brian Griffiths. JM, I only live in Maidstone so the former three are just down the road from my location. It would be nice if I can contact the lads to add to my "Staff List" and to get them on the UNIT data base system which John Routledge has set up. Enjoy your trip to Poland John and ride with safty.

Thank you for theinformation on the Soldier Magazine. It made good reading. A very nice comment from Bill Boyd. I quote: Instructor Bill Boyd was running courses right up to the final whistle. He discribed "the DUKW as the finest recruiting vehicle the Army had ever had". Yes, we all know it attracked many nice young ladies around the vichicles. Did you marry one. Once again thank you for the direction. It was to read about the final parade and also how 18 Sqn assisted 26 Sqn in Northern Ireland to make it 18/26 Sqn. (Sorry about typos).

This web site is great. Thanks Geordie. Keep up the good work. For the people who attended the last reunion I have some good news. There will be a reunion in Barnstaple (Fingers Crossed) in October 2010. I am waiting for costings from Devon so I can make a start on the planning. I will of course be looking for a few volunteers to assist me once again. The other bit of news is that the painting which was won by David Flynn is now been given to to his brother, Ozzy Osborne. (A DUKW Driver) Thank you David, a very nice gesture. There were close to 150 people at the last reunion. I am planning early because I am sure this number will increase for this one. Watch the site for more information as I get it. You will receive information by post and if I have your email address then, its down the wire.Lastly, please keep sending information to Geordie so others can keep up to speed. Stay well, and take care.

Living 3 doors down from Pete Osborne means that we can talk about 18 Sqn regularly despite the fact that I was REME attached. I can honestly say that the 2 tours I did at Fremington were the best in my 24 years service and I wish all ex members of all cap badges a happy and prosperous new year.this site brings back memories especially when you look at the photo's and can remember names after all these years
| Mike Ross | 02 January 2008 04:39:41 |
Having been across the pond to the US for a break, may I thank you all for you seasons greetings. For Ray Marshall: thank you for the information on the history of 18 Coy, Fremington Camp and our much loved DUKWs. Your research has given us younger folk knowledge of the passed. Many thanks Ray.

I was asked the other evening would I run another "Reunion". The answer to that is yes but in three years time. ( There were a large number of people that could not make the last one). Thats of courseif I am still swing the club. There will be quite a few gallons of water that will pass under the bridge in three years. We have a great web site now, and thanks must go to John Routledge. We need more photographs. I shall be in Wales this April for Exercise "Silver Year" of the WOs and SNCOs Club. See you there if you are attending.

Geordie lad. Thanks for putting the great photographs on the site and although I could not be there this time, at least I could go through them and recognize nearly all of them, It was especially nice to see Minnie and she doesn't look like she has aged at all, still that gorgious smile with the twinkle in her eye. I promise I will make the next reunion by hook or by crook. What a wonderful job Taffy, Ossy and yourselves put in to make it a great weekend. All the very best to all involved and those who remember me, please feel free to contact me anytime.

I had to make a choice this year of attending 18 Sqn reunion or 8 Regt RCT reunion. Both on the same day. I am overjoyed that I selected the right reunion. Meeting so many old mates was enlightening however older, greyer and bigger we all looked. My wife Kate was delighted that every one was so friendly and approachable. Danny Chandler and Colin Proffitt helped to make a great night. I thank those who picked me up when I fell A*** over Tip. I promise I was not the worse for wear - Honest.

What a weekend. It was great to see so many people enjoying meeting old friends from the passed. Our numbers were outstanding. With best wishes from 20 people (as I read out) I think we may have topped the 170 mark. On this comment I will say once again, thank you to, Ozzy Osbourne, Don Turner, Bob Raistrick for their assistance over the passed year. Also thank Colin Proffitt and Dave Munslow for their in-put. A special thank you to all who attend the reunion. I only hope that you all enjoyed the weekend. A big thank you must go to John (Geordie) Routledge for this site. It is with great sadness that I have been informed of the death of Barry Markley. Our thoughts at this time go out to Jan and family. For those of you who was lucky enough to know him, he was one of the best. We served together as both boy and adult soldiers and he ended up in boys as our Junior Sergeant Major. I dont know if it was a unique situation but at the same time his uncle Tony Simonds was the Adult Sergeant Major. He was truly was one of the best and will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace Barry.
