MINNIES BOYS AND GIRLS FREMINGTON

SATURDAY 19th OF DECEMBER 2009

PHOTOGRAPH PROVIDED BY OSSY OSBORN

To see more photographs of Minnie,s Funeral click on the link below

http://18sqnrctphotos.weebly.com

Hi Lads.

I can now confirm that the funeral for Minnie will commence at Fremington Church on Saturday 19th December at 1200hrs with a fitting Church Service to a very well known lady who looked after us Lads for many years.   Guests are asked to remain at the Church Hall adjacent to the Church while the family move to the Fremington Cemetery for a private service to lay Minnie to rest.   The family will return to the Church Hall and join guests for some light refreshments.  Passed members of 18 Coy/Sqn who served in Fremington Camp are very welcomed to attend the service to show their respects to a wonderful lady.

Yours Aye

 11th December 2009

It is with sad regret that I have to inform you that Minnie passed away last night having had an operation.  Minnie had fallen and had three fractures of the hip, however, she had come out of that just fine and was making progress.  Ann her daughter left her at 1940hrs and Minnie passed at 1950hrs.  The only information I have at this is that the service will be held at Fremington Church and Minnie will be laid to rest at Fremington Cemetery.  Please check with our web site for more info when known on Monday night.

LATEST INFO ON TIES AND PINS FROM TAFF

VERY IMPORTANT At last I can now go ahead with collecting the cash. The cost of the ties and pins: Ties £9.50 and the Pins £5.00. This cost will cover the UK postage but not overseas (Abroad). The extra cost will be another £1.93 for airmail. However, I can hold overseas orders until the reunion in October if preferred. Make your cheques payable to M Ross, and post it to: 10 Coulters Close, Grove Green, Maidstone, Kent ME14 5SU. Please ensure you send me your correct postal address and your cheques arrive within the next 5 weeks. I have orders for 45 ties and 54 pins. Therefore, I shall hold the 9 ties and 2 pins in stock. First come first served basis. Sorry, no guarantee the ties and pins will arrive before Christmas. Any worries or problems call me or send an “E”. Watch the site for further details on booking the reunion in the October 2010 .

Please note to get the ties and pins at the quoted prices, taff has to have a minumum order of 100 of each a smaller order will mean a big jump in price, the moral of this story is order quickly to keep the price down.

Geordie

At last i have managed to get the Tie on to the site its still not as good as the real one but it will give you some idea

Geordie

I have just received the artwork for a SQN TIE from Taff Ross,  to view the tie follow the link below to see a scanned image (please note this is a scanned image and is not of good Quality the tie is fantastic in real life) . The tie is Woven crested and the motif is our old SQN Tac sign the Dolphin and Sword I am sure you will all remember it especially the Singapore mob as we had it on our shirts.

http://s907.photobucket.com/albums/ac275/18coy/

To view the tie in better Quality go to the fun stuff page and download file 18amphcoysqn53877jh.tif this file should open in vista I am not sure about xp.

If you want one of these ties please email Jaketrelewis13@aol.com or phone Taf ASAP he needs a minimum order of 100 to set the ball rolling. Taf is also looking at a lapel badge of the Dolphin suitable for ladies or gents more details of this to follow.

As to cost the quoted price is very reasonable once he gets a final price I will post it on the website.

It will take about 10 weeks for the order to be processed so get your orders in quick and we may just get them for Christmas

Hi John best regards, Sam Dearnley recently passed this photo over to me to ask if I would photo copy it to see if you could publish it on the site, its obviously a converted vehicle, that is being called a Puddleduck, plying its trade on the Taw & Torridge estuary, at Instow, taking customers for pleasure trips, looks like a converted LARC to me, hope all is well with you, till next time Ossy.

This is a Coverted DUKW i had a ride on it in Jersy about 10 years ago thers not a lot of DUKW left a shame to spoil it but at least its still working for a living geordie

email from Dave Beckett he has found the18 SQN LARC

Hi John
Thanks for your reply yes I will try and get info on the Larc I Think it was army owned. In this month issue of the Classic Military Vehicles the centre page is taken put by British Military Hovercraft one excellent photo is taken at Browndown beach a very stony one the Hovercraft was on trials at the time and AER DUKW Coy were involved taken high ranking officers out to sea to watch its performances also in attendance were two Larcs showing off they were fast in the water than the Dukws but when they hit the beach they bounced up high near throwing all the passages off and got stuck digging its self in the stones like some mad animal
one of our Dukw had to winch it out.
We had over 30 Dukw on that excise and stayed at the Royal Navy Bks in Gosport for three week it was great drive them through the centre of the town, we were stationed at Bedford and drove them down to Gosport. Our training used large gravel pits around Bedfordshire and the river, what a  great experience
Will try and get some photo's together, I understand some years ago a guy name Swede was going to write a book about his time in 18 coy didn't it ever get publish?
Cheers for now
David
Ps is there any members in Cheshire?

Jack Mckee is trying to track down Brian Clayton we know he was from the London area any info will be greatly appreciated.

Just recieved  couple of Photos via Ozzy

This one is of 18 SQN football team in the late sixties

I can only name 3 of them and Ozzy has named some of them who are the rest

Hi John, Sam Dearnley(Ex/Boy and 18 coy RASC) still lives in Fremington, just passed on these two photos, the football team one loaned by Denis Hart, for me to scan and and ask to have them posted on the site, the one of Sam and Tom on the LCT, speaks for itself, trying to name all the team is a different matter, but here goes, my version

Back row L/to/R Ray Hutchings / Dick Desnan,REME / Ken Stafford(red suit) / Alf Dudley,REME / Denis Hart / Capt I. Bamber / Taff Greaves / Tony Hoyland / Derek Mould,REME / Kenny Anderson
Front row L/to/R Phil ?(red suit) / Vic Stables / Taff Blanche / Ozzy Morgan / Cheeky Mcdonagh,REME / Mick Callaghan / Gordon(Flash)Harris
most of these were named by Denis, I,m just confirming the ones I,m certain off, if anyone knows the missing name it would be helpful, I,m not convinced it,s Ken Stafford, but bow to superior knowledge, also Denis suggests it is approx 1969, however I know Kenny Anderson had left the Service long before then! Whatever its great to still have the photos
best wishes to you and yours, Ossy (Osborne)

Just found via the website

Malcolm (Eddy) Edwards and Terry (Taff) Peters also Pete Reeder has gone on line i shal add there details to the data base soon.

I have just recieved some excelent photos from Terry (Taff) Peters well done Taff below is a photo of the Memorial to Norman Holmes in the National Arboretum

Norman Holmes who drowned at Flushing in Holland on exercise in 1964 or 5 he was carrying tank tracks when his DUKW overturned and sank he was wearing a Naval type life belt that was not inflated and the tank tracks took him down, Pete Panks Normans No 2 was wearing a Kapok life jacket and did not even get his Beret wet Norman is sadly missed by all of us.

Hi Geordie,
further to Taff Peters excellent photos, and references to our
past comrade "Norman holmes"  when I visited The National Arboretum in
July, I took photos of  the inscription for "Bobby Laws" & "Joe
Fleming" please see attachments, I have since found out it is possible
to download Adobe PDF files from The Roll of Honour as Attachments, for
any of our past comrades that are included, once again I include the
ones I have as as attachments should you wish to use them, as examples!
Hope you are well, was great to see the correct names on "Officers
Mess" 1971 photo, even I got the OC wrong, and didn,t recognise Hugh,(
but I knew Him) at Fremington, even if he cant remember me? I think
most of us have put on a bit of "Podge" around the middle, funny though
once you know the names how you can recall, whatever they were great I
left the forces in 1969, Only Yesterday! Wishing you all the best and
once again thanks for the site,
     Regards Ossy.
